Black History Month Exhibit
Our Black History Month exhibit, Emancipation to Integration: Black Education in Athens, Georgia, is on display through February during our regular hours. The exhibit shares the remarkable stories of formerly enslaved people, local Black educators and students of the Reconstruction era, the first students and teachers to integrate Athens schools and the University of Georgia, and the legacy of Black education in Athens.
Thank you to everyone who attended our opening reception! A special thank you to everyone who participated in our Memory Archive by writing a story about the teachers and mentors that made a positive impact in their life.
We invite you to our next exhibit in honor of Women’s History Month, The Women That Changed Athens, curated by Historic Athens fellow Anna Scott. Join us for an opening reception on Wednesday, March 4th from 4:00-6:00 PM. Details are linked here.
