Opening Reception for Emancipation to Integration: Black Education in Athens, Georgia

The Historic Athens Welcome Center invites the community to a free Opening Reception for its new exhibit Emancipation to Integration: Black Education in Athens, Georgia on Thursday, February 12th from 4:00-6:00 PM. The exhibit shares the remarkable stories of formerly enslaved people, local Black educators and students of the Reconstruction era, the first students and teachers to integrate Athens schools and the University of Georgia, and the legacy of Black education in Athens. During the reception, guests will meet the curators of the exhibit and are welcome to tour the c. 1820 Church-Waddel-Brumby House.
