“Holiday Spirits” Docent-Guided Tours of Three Museum Homes
In the spirit of a truly Vintage Christmas, the Athens Historic House Museum Association welcomes residents and visitors for the annual Holiday Spirits Tour. Three historic homes will host on-the-hour tours at Noon, 1:00, and 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 15th. Professional museum docents will cover the evolution of Athens traditions over the course of 100+ years, including the Federal, Greek Revival, and Victorian periods. Participants will experience Athens’ most magnificent homes adorned in holiday splendor, along with costumed guides and seasonal refreshments.
This year, attendees can arrive on their own, selecting the times and locations they choose from three historic museum homes. Due to limited space on each hourly tour, visitors are encouraged to arrive early. A $5 donation is suggested at the door for each 30-minute tour.
Athens Historic Home Tours at Noon, 1:00, and 2:00 pm at
* Church-Waddel-Brumby House (280 E. Dougherty St.)
* T.R.R. Cobb House (175 Hill St.)
* Ware-Lyndon House (211 Hoyt St.)
This special event is concurrent with holiday open houses at both the Lyndon House Arts Center and the Athens Welcome Center (Brumby House). Throughout the day, the Lyndon House will feature hands-on activities for the entire family, a photo-op with Santa, and an artists’ market. The Athens Welcome Center will host local personality, Tom Hodgson for a book-signing featuring his Monday Night Cookbook. There will be a back-porch ‘Cookie-Tasting’ featuring *secret* heirloom recipes collected from the South.
